How to join: All recreational users of The Rockface must complete a membership form, answering four questions. If you can put on a harness, tie in and belay safely then you will be classed as a 'Competent' climber and can use the centre unsupervised. This definition of 'competent' does not imply any degree of competence for climbing outside. All the courses we offer, and the nature of our wall are all specific to the indoor climbing wall environment. This is very different to climbing outside. We therefore reccomend that anyone wishing to take up outdoor climbing should take appropriate instruction prior to doing so. The best place to find an instructor is to look in the Classifieds section of any of the climbing magazines that are available in Rock On. If for any reason you are unable to do any of the above, you will be classed as a “Novice” climber and will need to be supervised by another competent climber. A competent climber may supervise a maximum of two novices. A novice can be taught to belay by a competent climber as long as there is always a competent climber on the ground backing up by holding the dead end of the rope. Please note: we do not allow unsupervised access to The Rockface by under-18s unless they have passed a specific Rockface belay test. Please call for further details.
